Road Trip Part Deux. . . .

Well as I mentioned in an earlier post, I had to take Meghan down to Tampa for a consult with an orthopedic surgeon. It seems that our little soccer player did some major damage to her ankle. From what we can gather, 25% of her talar dome (the bone that connects the leg to the foot) is damaged to the extent that the closest doctor that could see her for this injury was 3 hours away! Boy, when Meg does it she does it big! :o) Anyway, we went over spring break to meet the doc and surgery is tomorrow! :o( There is a pretty large bone fragment that has actually made it's way to just under the surface of the skin that they are going to try and reattach with metal tacks. If the fragment is too damaged, then they are going to have to remove it, clean out the ankle joint from all off the foreign bodies that have broken off off her talar dome and do a procedure called "microfracture". It is where they will actually drill tiny holes into the surface of the damaged bone to try and stimulate it to grow fibrous tissue aka scar tissue to keep the bone from deteriorating any further. Pray that this procedure works. Our next step would be called an Oates procedure where they actually would have to take bone and cartilage from either Meg's knee or a cadaver and try and rebuild the area of the talar dome that is damaged. I will be sending updates over the next couple of days via twitter (Joyce made me!!) so I can keep everyone in the loop. Talk at ya later!

Wow - I am behind on your blog! Congrats to your daughter for the scholarship - my jaw dropped open wide when I read it! That's AWESOME. If you happen to have extra college money, remember we have 3 more to get through college. LOL

Surgery was yesterday, so I pray that it was a success. I look forward to reading an update!
